Keyboard & VRChat
Open Keyboard from the wrist menu. The keyboard supports desktop output and a separate VRChat chatbox mode.
Desktop output
Section titled “Desktop output”Use desktop mode when typing into a Windows application. Make sure the intended application’s text field is focused before entering text.
If typing goes somewhere unexpected, check the output mode and desktop focus first.
VRChat chatbox
Section titled “VRChat chatbox”- Start VRChat.
- Enable OSC in VRChat’s Action Menu.
- Switch the keyboard’s output mode to the VRChat chatbox.
- Compose your message using the keyboard or speech input.
AstralOverlay’s composer limits messages to 144 characters. It sends OSC to localhost UDP port 9000 and does not bind VRChat’s outgoing port 9001.
A warning that VRChat is not running is advisory: the mode can still be selected. A successful UDP send does not prove that VRChat displayed the text.
Choose a layout
Section titled “Choose a layout”The keyboard layout selector is in Settings. The default layout ID is ansi-compact. Custom layouts are loaded from JSON files in the user’s Layouts folder.
Custom layouts need their own filename. A user layout cannot replace a shipped layout just by reusing its ID. Invalid or oversized files are not listed.
See saved data and customization for the folder location. The visual keyboard layout editor is available in the application; a full layout-format reference is not yet included here.
